Perry Belcher Shocking Confession

Here is how I got started on Twitter, Facebook etc…

I know most of the marketing community knows part of this story but I think everyone needs to hear the WHOLE story.

I got in a ton of trouble some time back for marketing dietary supplements. That’s why I tell every client today to steer clear of this industry. Regulations are rigid and if you get very big the pharmaceutical machine will crush you, no matter what you do.

Truth is I believed in every product I sold. I think I read every book in existence on alternative health, hired medical association presidents as consultants & even got FDA licensed. (see below) In the end none of that mattered.

My local county government in Tennessee closed my business, smeard my reputation and took away everything I had in the world…except my knowledge.

I can’t be in any health related businesses and have to report all my activities regularly to the courts including travel, products created etc… Bottom line, I walk the straight and narrow.

The good news is this never has to happen to you. It never had to happen to me. Truth is when you really learn transparent marketing you can market anything successfully, without hype, lies or tricks.

Facts:

I have made some major mistakes in the past.
I should have never entered the health business solely based on what I believed to be true.
I am VERY sorry if I ever harmed anyone, it was never my intent.
I realize now how stupid and irresponsible I was.
This was one mistake out of a career of business successes.
I will never tell anything less than 100% FACT BASED truth till the day I die.

I made this video as soon as I got started in social media to be 100% transparent about my past.

If you’ve ever made a mistake you wish you could take back I’m sure you’ll understand.

Sometimes you just can’t put the shit back in the horse.

    Hi Perry,

yeah, yeah, scary stuff. Anyway, you are well on your way, and I enjoy every minute of the social media money system you recently put out.

Take care and talk to you on the call today.
    Mark

  2. Jay says:

If what you say is true, time will prove that “you are the man”. I believe in you.

  3. Steve says:

The Govt didnt shut you down. Big Pharma shut you down. And they used the Govt to do it for them.

  4. Dave Moore says:

Damn Perry, if it weren’t for making mistakes and flat out failures I’d have no idea how to get to the top or even back to middle ground. I’m a pro and going up and down like a yo yo not sure I like it, but I almost don’t bat an eye anymore.

My motto is: I’ll fail my way to success there’s no point in easy street because then you don’t have anything to teach the rest of the world.

Isn’t that what it’s all about anyway giving back when ever you can and whatever you have to give?

    Well my 2 cents worth.

Do have a quick question if you have time to breathe these days…
I’m looking for a good buzz group something that’s active, you know of any or have anything like that going on?

Preferably something that won’t break the bank because I just did that a few months ago and of course made some more dumb decisions trying to claw my way back up even though I’ve had my current idea in my head for almost a year.

If you get a moment to breathe that would be cool if not I understand and will keep digging till I find what I’m looking for.

    Thanks
    Dave

  5. Richard says:

Perry im new to the social media world …..when i first went on twitter i have to admit the spammers and 15000 followers in a week brigade got me down.

    Good solution, thanks

  7. GBG Guy says:

Thanks for the heartfelt video, Perry – helps everyone get to know you better. I know from experience in viewing your products and free content that your heart is in the right place and you are ‘good people’ – your story is inspiring…

  8. James says:

    Hell Perry, that’s some story!

I have joined you Social Media Money Course and am looking forward to our one-to-one conversation.

  9. Mike says:

Don’t feel bad Perry. One of my former employer’s was a neutraceutical salesman and the same thing happened to him. Everytime you google his name, the FTC lawsuit article comes right up. I thought about developing my own business but you’re right. You have to be very meticulous about what you say, especially on the labels.

Internet Marketing is much more loose, wide open to markets, beneficial, and best of all..its education that is constantly changing.

Thanks for posting the video; it was in the back of my mind as well since “scam” pops up behind your name as a suggested long tail keyword. I enjoy your videos and look fowarding to working with you in the near future.

    Congrats on your success!

    Michael Hart

  10. JJ says:

Know what? I did the same thing:) Selling “dietary supplements” + some, let’s say “sexual enhancers”, which I absolutely didn’t feel right about. I had more and more business coming my way, but at some point I just figured I don’t feel right doing that. I have stuff waiting to be flushed in the toilet – and I’m serious. I “lost” my business partners because of it, and I don’t give a damn. So I absolutely understand where you’re coming from. Of course my business was rather small and far from 30 million range.
    JJ

  11. Rick Salas says:

I really bothered me when this one guy was making comments about you. There are so many that are still your fans and I never took your youtube off my blog. it’s such a good video on social marketing.

It must have been an experience that you’ll remember all your life. Things happen and we keep moving forward. It was great to hear what you had to say.

  12. Ruth says:

    Hi Perry,
Thanks for opening up about your past. When I first heard about you I did a Google search and read about you being on the wrong side of the law. Because you were associated with Mike Dillard I gave you the benefit of the doubt. I’ve have enjoyed learning from you this past year, but always in the back of my mind was this question, can I completely trust what you are teaching. This video has put those issues to rest. What an inspirational story-you’ve come out on the other side of a very difficult time in your life. Thanks for being open with us.

  13. Uncle Jimmy says:

Two things that give me a good feeling about this guy is one: I got to meet him, look him in the eyes and get a good feeling. Two: he actually puts not only all his contact links on his Twitter page but also his phone number. Not even I will put my phone number out there.

  14. Thanks for sharing Perry- it shows the strength of your character. You were able to turn your life around from this because you took responsibility so then you were able to choose otherwise…

  15. Steve says:

You no the Business Perry begin with being truthful with yourself and the rest falls right in place and you are doing a HELL’Va job Keep up the Great work!!!

  16. jay klum says:

You are amazing to have lost it all continued to succeed in new ventures in spite of the past failure. You have learned from your past and grown in new ways and discovered the shift in consciousness that is manifesting through social networking and created a system to market the network. God works in mysterious ways.. You are phenomenal Perry. Thank you for your contribution to the evolution of humanity and your insights into the dynamics of online society.

    jay klum
p.s. can’t wait to follow your monetizing social media program

  17. Calvin says:

Honesty and Integrity are ALWAYS the way to go, nobody can argue with that and if they do, well their idiots. We all make mistakes, EVERYBODY makes mistakes. The ones who are willing to come out and admit to it, are REAL people. Too bad our politicians can’t figure that out…

    Good Job Perry!

  18. @oZestretch says:

I am glad you made this post.
Your video was the first ever that got me into social networking early this year.
Reading some blogs in the past week made me wonder if you can really know anyone via social networking. When they do things like you have done above, certainly helps put thoughts at ease.

  19. Kaz Isogai says:

    Hi Perry,

Thank you for sharing your story.
My wife and I are in the health business.
I am always concerned about the how much I could say in terms of making a statement or claim on our service or products.
Your story scares me a little, but I guess that’s a part of the game.

P.S. I just purchased your Social Media Money System. It’s awesome.

    Thanks,

  20. Connie says:

    Hi there,

I’ve just come to know who you are because I’m a newbie. I knew you were very real from the first video I saw, which was what attracted me to you:) You obviously had a good foundation growing up, so you know you’re forgiven by the One who matters most and who loves you the most! I think you’re awesome:)
    Connie

  21. Alison says:

    Hi Perry

Thank you for sharing this information with us, I myself have had some problems in the past and the best thing to do is as you’ve done – tell it like it is

thank you for all your teaching and help

  22. Tom Fraley says:

You are absolutely right about the supplement industry. There are so many companies just out to make a buck and really don’t care about really helping people. They are full of hype and false promises. They tarnish the industry for the few good ones.

So, to say that the industry itself is bad is also very wrong of you to say… Just on the other end of the spectrum than you were in before.

Science has proven that dietary supplementation is not only good but, necessary. You just have to do your research (not that you didn’t) and find an honest company with a good reputation with lots of proof that their products truly do what they say they will do and without hype or misleading marketing.

Like you, I believe in helping other people with integrity. I believe I can do that and I do help people. As you know, it’s easier to do the right thing than recover from doing the wrong thing and always wonder how many people actually got hurt from doing the wrong thing.

I believe that your intentions are in the right place based on what you say. From you can and are helping people. Good for you! And thank you!!

  23. Lothar Evers says:

Mistakes in the past can happen.
    But:
    I did not understand:
who hat the disadnatages from your profits?
Did you apologize to these people?
And compensated them from the big earnings you make now?
    And if you say:
“I will never tell anything less than 100% FACT BASED truth till the day I die.”
Are you and I really going to believe your time is wort more than $20.000 for 2 hours as you claimed in you invitation yesterday?
Any proof and real answers or just these vague videos?

  24. Amy says:

Perry, Sorry to hear you’ve had such a BAD time. Even better to see how well you’re doing now. I was on your webinar tonight, and you rock. I love what Churchill said….Success is going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm. It doesn’t matter how many times you fall–only how many times you get up. Hopefully, you won’t have to do this again. Thanks for all your great teaching. See you at the TOP!

  25. Perry – well timed to put out the video before the webinar… I appreciate your story and have lived the very same trauma. My ex was a successful naturopath until the local sheriff raided his office. After two years of legal battle, he’s actually in prison for his work in alternative medicine. It’s easier than anyone can believe and could happen to any number of us who have spent time marketing health care products.

People will of course pull up your old negative press and blast that out to try to discount your genius. But I know most will realize your value above and beyond what you have had to work through.

I am proud to be on this journey, recovering right alongside you.

  26. I was watching your webinar. I think it’s probably easy to only sell stuff to people who have “cosied up” to you, when you have 100,000 plus followers. But for the average marketing guy, it’s not an option.
There is more pressure on the average marketer to sell a lot more, like sell at every possible opportunity, rather than just engage in “small talk”
You keep pressing the point that if you say that you are selling stuff up front, there is something wrong with you. But why not be honest, and admit that you ARE selling stuff and you are not just “hanging out”

    Tom

  27. Eric Silva says:

I really like when ppl are transparent. I totally believe you and understand where your coming from as much as I can. Can’t wait to see you in Austin bro!

    -Eric

  28. Kathrin says:

    WOW!
I’m very impressed by a lot of what you say/write, but this is something else. This is real human honesty…which is like “balm for the soul”. Dont know if you can say like this in english but in swedish you can :) but i think you understand what i mean.

    Best of luck to you.

    /K

  29. Carlos Duran says:

    Hi Perry,

I certainly have made my share of mistakes and jackass decisions I wish I could take back. I think it takes a big man to take chances and even a bigger man to admit when he made a mistake.

But Perry, fertility pills and anti-depressants are not dietary supplements. Could you explain how you ended up selling these and what happened?

My dear friend and father figure Gary Halbert suffered from bouts of depression, this is a particularly sore subject for me and your candor is appreciated.

    Thank you.

  30. Hey Perry, Thanks for being so open & honest. Honesty is what I value most in ANY relationship! I’m glad to be one of your many cyber buds.

  31. writer chick says:

    Hi Perry,
I was very touched by your video and your sincerity.Listen, we all make mistakes, no matter who we are-so who would I be to judge? I think you can only do the best you can do and that’s it. As far as I can see, you are a good guy who learns from his mistakes and wants to help other people- I can’t see a flaw in that at all.

Thanks for sharing your story – I really appreciate it.

    Annie (aka Writer Chick)

  32. Transparency rules the web. You can not hide. It’s good to open up like that. No P.R firm could do a better job than you personally doing it yourself. Like the Zig Ziglar quote. That’s my mantra.

  33. Perry,

Things happen for a reason. And maybe had to happen to connect each other and all the good people that now follows you.

Thank You for this video. Always teaching sometihng value!

    Javier Quiroz

  34. I appreciate your openness & honesty. You’re make me feel like you’re a good person. Most people would probably care less about what others think of them. You’re very personable & apparently love life.

I’ve just been introduced to social media(@ 1 week ago) & I’m fascinated with it. I have a lot to learn. I’m REALLY HOPING you’ll be one of my personal mentors.

    Keep up the good work,
    Greg

  35. Eunice says:

What an experience you went through. At least you been honest to speak about your past this will open up my eyes and I will think before I do.This can cause pain and stress opening your heart help you to release the pain. You are great and don’t give up.
    Regard
    Eunice

  36. Greg says:

    Hey Perry,

Thanks for the video. We all make mistakes, but hopefully we’re smart enough to learn from those mistakes. If we didn’t make mistakes, most of us wouldn’t learn, grow and succeed. If we’re sincere, then we deserve another chance. Keep your chin up and press forward.

Wishing you the best of success in all you choose to do,

    Greg

  37. Tony says:

    Hi Perry,

    I felt that.

You got back to the top again! Nobody has the right to your money except you who has worked hard and created it yourself [again]…period!

Grab my hand and pull me up!

    Regards

    Tony

  38. Hey Perry,

Thank you, thank you, thank you. It is great to see such honesty from people, you hit the nail on the head though when you said you pity the people that have to resort to underhanded crap. You are dead right, that it ALL they have. I have recently had to take some action that I really didn’t want to take. I know we have choices and I made mine for better or worse. You are a great example of what is possible. Thank you for being you.

    Namaste

    Andrew

  39. Perry,

    Your transparency is admirable.

None of us is perfect. The difference between you & alot of people is your willingness to not let your past determine your future.

I appreciate your contributions to the world & this awesome online community.

  40. Yvette says:

    Hey Perry,

Great video on your honesty. Learning from mistakes is good and better than being prideful and not owning up to them. Sounds like you’ve owned up to past mistakes and have grown as a result. Good job.

    Way to go,

  41. George says:

    You are really matured, Bro…

I’ve got a similarity in my own past – two decades (years) ago.
That was horrible feeling. Emptyness and chilled soul.
    I’ve seen an edge.

But, If You (me too) still alive so we don’t fulfilled our mission here –
    on old sinful Earth.

Now you look quite well. You have a lot of friends.
    So, keep driving, Perry!

I trust you and wish you good,
    George

  42. The Fit Dad says:

    Hey Perry,
Great video. You’ve been a huge help to me over the past couple months (and Ryan) and this video cemented my thoughts about you. You seem to be a great guy and does want to help people. It’s usually pretty easy to tell the people who don’t give a rat’s a$$ about their followers, “friends” and customers.

I look forward to meeting you next month in Austin!

    Ed

  43. Liliana Carrillo says:

    Hi Perry

Thanks for being so transparent. I personally think you’re an awesome, funny guy who’s providing lots of valuable content to your audience. We’re all humans and we all make mistakes. I’m not here to judge anyone — just like I would not like to be judged either. No one is perfect :)

    Keep being so COOL!

    Liliana

  44. Faith says:

I am deeply touched by your story. Thanks for sharing and showing your courage. It must be never easy for anyone else to do – cofessing not just to your best friend but to the world! I believe that you deserve standing high in the world’s account.

    All the best

  45. Jean Buschke says:

Couldn’t get the video to play…but I too read what you wrote.

What I have to say is…it’s all in the getting back up! It’s all in the getting back up…

    I’m a fan :)

  46. Hey Perry!

I listen to you because you provide me with valuable information and you are fun to watch. Most of your stuff is useful to me some of it is not. But that is okay. I am not an IM (which most of your followers probably are.) I take bits and pieces from many sources (you being one) and implement into my business model where I see fit. To be quite frank, I find most of the stuff that IM “experts and gurus” put out are quite insulting to one’s intelligence, which is why I don’t listen to any of them except you. For example, I hate the “talking heads” that pop up on the screen and there is no button to shut them off. I leave their site when I cannot control how I take in the content. I find most IM’s stuff to be quite obnoxious, which brings me to my next point….

Look, I don’t care what you did in the past or what mistakes you made. It’s called being HUMAN. Hellooooooo, part of the human experience is about having highs and lows. While, I understand your desire to “come clean” with the online world, which tells me you have a conscience, unlike most corporate executives and government officials, I don’t feel it is my place to judge you. Like I said, I listen to you because I find your content useful. The day you stop providing useful information will be the day I stop listening to you.

I want to leave you with one of my favorite quotes: “Be kind to one another, for everyone is doing the best the can at the conscious level they are at.” You were doing the best you could at the conscious level you were at when the FIT hit the SHAN. You then went through an experience that AWAKENED you to a new way of doing business and treating other humans. My hope for you is this: May you continue to use your gifts of speaking, humor, business for the betterment of humanity.

From a born and raised South Austin gal who now lives in California to an Austin boy who is just doing the best we can in this experiment called LIFE.

    Cheers!

  47. I’m glad i watched this i have been recommending you for quite sometime until I read the story about your arrest, It’s great you posted a video to set the record straight. I think everyone makes mistakes in business, it what we do afterward.

  48. Justin says:

Totally agree with transparency. It is way too easy to be found out online these days. I would rather be straight with my communication with people, even if I am not liked, people will trust and respect a person that is their word. Great video, everyone should get this key concept. This is HUGE!

    Justin in Minneapolis

  49. Thanks man, I don’t listen to the “NEWS” as reported and take it as the “TRUTH”. Appreciate your information and just feel in my heart that you are real and sincere. Here’s to you for telling it like it is. I look forward to more of your trainings and sharing your knowledge…..

  50. Daniel says:

    Perry,
When you make a mistake and own it, you are a stand up person. we all make mistakes, or bad choices. IM gives us all a good start of making a mistake. In our country (US) We get to make the same mistake every four years. Insurance Companies and Lawyers run our country, They make up and appoint other Government agencies to keep an eye on people who might be successful, you must have hit their radar.
    Moving forward,
    Daniel
