Here is how I got started on Twitter, Facebook etc…
I know most of the marketing community knows part of this story but I think everyone needs to hear the WHOLE story.
I got in a ton of trouble some time back for marketing dietary supplements. That’s why I tell every client today to steer clear of this industry. Regulations are rigid and if you get very big the pharmaceutical machine will crush you, no matter what you do.
Truth is I believed in every product I sold. I think I read every book in existence on alternative health, hired medical association presidents as consultants & even got FDA licensed. (see below) In the end none of that mattered.
My local county government in Tennessee closed my business, smeard my reputation and took away everything I had in the world…except my knowledge.
I can’t be in any health related businesses and have to report all my activities regularly to the courts including travel, products created etc… Bottom line, I walk the straight and narrow.
The good news is this never has to happen to you. It never had to happen to me. Truth is when you really learn transparent marketing you can market anything successfully, without hype, lies or tricks.
Facts:
I have made some major mistakes in the past.
I should have never entered the health business solely based on what I believed to be true.
I am VERY sorry if I ever harmed anyone, it was never my intent.
I realize now how stupid and irresponsible I was.
This was one mistake out of a career of business successes.
I will never tell anything less than 100% FACT BASED truth till the day I die.
I made this video as soon as I got started in social media to be 100% transparent about my past.
If you’ve ever made a mistake you wish you could take back I’m sure you’ll understand.
Sometimes you just can’t put the shit back in the horse.

I thought that was you, I remember hearing about this in the warriorforum when Ryan Launched a product with some of your marketing advice (you gave away awesome free stuff then aswell).
I defended you at the time, not because I knew you, but because I know about all the cures that are suppressed by a government being manipulated by Bigpharma.
You seem to be passionate about marketing but I wonder if you are as passionate about alternative health.
I bring that up to say this, so many marketing Gurus tell people to find a niche that is profitable instead of discovering their passion, or the most meaningful ways to give value to others in a way that fulfills them, and then apply good marketing to that.
You seem meant to teach marketing. Not just the free reports but the passion and sincerity that comes through. I believe one of the major problems with the world is so many people are making money, just to make money.
If we have faith that God gave us a gift(passion, vision, talent, character) to give the world that will provide for ourselves and others, we wouldn’t become wage slaves and we wouldn’t become successful manipulators causing unnecessary problems for the world (and ourselves). We’d be “organically” prosperous.
Maybe those other businesses were the triumphs, trials & tribulations on your own personal “hero journey” preparing you to deliver what you were called to do. Only you can know.
I really enjoy your entertaining personality and thank you for the great freebies.
Very sincere video. It’s too bad they slapped you so hard. That would really suck to lose so much so fast.
Perry,
Now thats what I call a True Guru. You are a Class Act and am proud to know of you. I hope someday we can have a friendship. I personally don’t have time in my life for BSers and slick talking self proclaimed guru’s. You are not one of them, you are risking your career but we all have made mistakes and it takes a real man to confront and accept the rewards and consquences of our actions.
I have noticed a real change in you and I don’t even know you.
You have set forth a tidal wave of positive energy and am sure you have not even seen success yet.
The real lesson is its about Building Relationships and this is an excellent example on how friendships truely begin.

Very cool video Perry. It takes a lot to put yourself out there like that. I was wondering what supplements they were? I used to drink shakes and take supplements and lost a ton of weight. I loved this stuff, I was just wondering if it was the same stuff, I doubt it was. When I have enough money I plan on using this stuff again and possibly trying to share it with people now that I know a little about Internet marketing. It will be all online though, maybe some offline, but everyone will be sent to online sources to sign up, and I really won’t be worried about whether people get it or not. I know it worked for me and can’t wait to start using the product again.
Perry thanks for sharing this man. Im not sure if it “cheered me up” but its helped to gain some level of perspective. My house is in foreclosure and sells on Aug. 11 @ 10am. Im scared and shi#$ing bricks to be honest. But Im not giving up. Ive been studying everthing I can get my hands on to learn how to make a consistent income online – including your latest social media reports. My wife keeps telling me we just have to beleive – you nkow “the secret” and I fight against my own mind every minute of the day to stay positive. And its hard. But we keep going. Im sure in the end I’ll have one hell of a story to tell. Maybe mine will inspire people too. Thanks again for the candid “behind the scenes” look into your life.
I really appreciated your story about your experiences in the food supplement business. A similar situation happened to me and my business about 40 years ago. The only difference was it involved the aviation industry and it was the FAA plus local gendarmes that shut me down. It certainly was a life changing/shattering experience for me and my employees who became instantly unemployed.
Again, as you became aware, I was stupid for ever thinking I could compete in that arena. When you get big enough to be noticed, they will crush you like a bug without a second thought.
I am now retired and dabbling in niche web sites while trying to learn social networking. Your insights into this fascinating world are much appreciated.
Hi Perry,
I just want to say you: Congratulations for your sincerity!. I liked you before, but know, I like you more
The saying: “Every cloud has a silver lining” really can apply to you. Keep the good work!!
Best regards, from Madrid (Spain)
Sandra.
Dear Perry: Appreciated your post. A question: As part of the Total Health Circle I’m working with a great company called iHerbs that sells herbal supplements of all kinds, name brands at a discount. Do you see any problem here similar to what you experienced?
George
Hi perry,
I’ve been following you for a while now and watching this video made me sad. You seemed so humble I really feel for you. Before I probably envied you as you are so successful and I’m still really struggling, but now I see you’re just as vunerable as the rest of us. Thank you so much for sharing and I hope some of your kindness, honesty and good fortune rubs off on the rest of us.
Lots of Luck and best wishes.
jubo
p.s. I follow you on twitter too.
Perry,
When someone is successful, it triggers envy around them. That is a fact. It is not really your fault. It is a good idea to ignore them. You are a nice fellow, I can feel that. You did and dared with big numbers, and my congrats to you! I know, yes I know that you a great friend. So don’t worry about what some negative people tell about you! Do you know the Aesop’s story of the miller, his son, and the donkey? Giving people what they want is the good thing to do. You are on the right way!
Take care! Hope to meet you one day! Continue the great job! Be happy!
Great video, showed that you have balls to stand up for what you did, I’ve heared the story, besides I googled you and I’ve have found some more info, but this my friend, it’s the best way to go.
We all have make mistakes at one time or another, so in my case you’re okidoki.
My best to you,
Marcelo.-
Hi Perry Belcher,
You have a lot of courage and personal integrity to make a video where you admit to being a human being. You are right when you say that it is impossible to put the shit back into the horse. We all make mistakes; we all cry; we all bleed; we all must do what we have to do. My hat’s off to you.
Unlike you I have no money and, probably, no friends. That makes me poor indeed. Friends and family are priceless possessions and are to be cherished above all things.
I chose to follow you on twitter because I see you as a mentor to help me achieve my internet dreams – to build a thriving and successful business online. Right now, I teach English to non-native speakers because that is the last option that I have available to me under the German work system. The German and European work environment is different from the US – they believe in and practice age discrimination. If you are over 40 and lose your job you have little chance of re-entering the workforce in your former occupation. Teaching is poorly remunerated but the successes of one’s students is reward enough. It makes your time worthwhile.
When your world falls out from under your feet, what do you do?
Have a great day in the USA.
Grüße aus der Pfalz,
Bill Short
excellent
rock on Perry, we have all been kicked, Rocky Balboa, great saying, its not how hard you hit, its how hard you can be hit and get back up. I listened to you on a Matt Bacak call. I think you are a guy to have a pint with and you will make it back and more.
I did a video on you on you tube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDLX5dznAco
This says it all.
Best Of Irish Luck

Perry -
Thanks for sharing your story. It provides a little more insight into who you are and what you’re all about. I look forward to meeting you at the Launch Tree event in Las Vegas.
Perry,
Sucks what happened to you bud.
But you are living testament to the quote,
“it’s not what happens to you, but how you respond to it”
Thank you for sharing your story and I hope we can become personal friends,
your new buddy in the UK.
Adil Amarsi
Hey Perry,
Touching video. Thanks for being so honest and open with us. That takes true guts and integrity. I’m really proud to know you.
My pastor tells a story every once in a while about how he interviews new, prospective staff members for our church. One of the key questions he asks them is, “So, how were you broken?” If they can’t answer, which means either they haven’t been through the fire yet or they’re not willing to be open about it, then they’re not right for the position. But when they share their heart and their past, warts and all, it becomes clear that they’re ready to minister in our church.
Sounds to me like you’re in a perfect place to help a WHOLE bunch of folks.
Thanks so much,
Ellen
Howdy Perry LOL Got to say This 1st off.You almost look totally different without your glasses.I hate to wear mine as well.Dude you will always have a friend here.I am not very smart at all.And hate to say this but I am Poor.I have back problems so cant work a 9-5.I have been trying to make money online for about 2 years now.I have made a Grand Total of $40 dollars and that is Pending LOL.I have $20 to my name.I have 4 teenagers at home and they want and want every day and it hurts to have to say no.Thank you for the info on dietary supplements because I have been promoting them but as of this Second I will be deleting everything anywhere affiliated with the niche!Guess you cant lose what you dont have.So I would probably just go to jail since no money for them to take.I will be following you as much as I can.I find all of your Videos interesting and helpful. You seem to be a Regular guy that has done well for himself and I wish You and Yours all the best.As long as you offer free stuff I will be all over it.I just wish I was Smart enough to do as well as you.My Children deserve it.Ok I will shut up now. God Bless and Best of Luck in all of your future endeavors. Michael Crutchfield
Great video from the heart! Listen…we all make mistakes. The guy that comes out and tells it like it is…warts and all…is the bigger and better man to me. Thanks for what you do! And…let me say…if there’s anything I can do for you, you let me know. I’ll give it the best shot I know how.
Perry,
I just want to say that you are one of the most REAL people on the internet to date, and I can honestly say that I respect and admire you, and hang on to every word that comes out of your mouth!
I have been trying to make it online for a SAD 8 years plus, and I honestly think I have found the absolute best way to brand myself, and be wildly successful in the net, regardless of how I choose to earn money online; THIS IS THE WAY!
This is the quickest, easiest and offers the most longevity online.
Thank YOU!
Drew
P.S. I really enjoy that you pull no punches, please continue to use your “colorful vocabulary”, to anyone that follows you, you are the real deal!
I liked your video. And I am looking forward to learning from you and promoting your products.
Thanks for being so honest. I haven’t made a penny on-line, but I want to and need to.
You have a good heart. Looking forward to working with you.
Sincerely,
Baji Milici
Perry,
as you know, I did extensive research on you, before are recent interview.
First I’d like to say thanks again for the most informative interview ever.
My personal feelings are that you have such a warehouse of knowledge in the marketing field, that anyone whether new to marketing or a seasoned veteran could learn from you.
Now, on to the controversy that surrounds you; intentional, accidental, it does not matter, you screwed-up (as we all do from time to time), but you learned from it, and grew as a person, congratulations.
No one should expect more from anyone; let’s face it, we all have skeletons in the closet; if you do not have any skeletons, then, you must be the most boring person around, because if you are really living life to it’s fullest, you make mistakes.
Perry, I can’t speak for everyone, but your mistakes may never be forgotten, but I can forgive, and I hope others can too.
Wishing you continued success.
Thanks for sharing your personal story!
I’ve always found your stuff (and Ryan’s) to be some of the most sensible and useful Internet marketing information out there. In fact, last week, I’d been tweeting about your social media freebies because I find them to be truly valuable.
One good thing about social media is that you have to be authentic. Being yourself attracts the right people for you and sifts away others, so in the end you get quality rather than quantity.
Keep sharing – we’re listening!
Hi Perry, I haven’t had a chance to read through all you have written, but will go through it thoroughly as time permits. Thanks for your candor about the experience you had with the dietary supplement market. I’m sure it will help others steer clear of what could be a “landmine” for them as well.
I am still relatively new to internet marketing and want to work on sharing information it has taken me many years to learn about what we as adults can do to help children become independent, successful adults, whether as homeschooler, parent, grandparent, foster parent, teacher, etc.
I worked in education for many years and know how it can be done. Something needed but may not necessarily be saleable. Being retired, I would also like to find someway to help other retirees share some of their knowledge and wisdom with the younger “folks” and be able to make some supplementary income at the same time. Too unrealistic I think!
Anyway, Thanks again. And I bet you have a great Mom. Being a mom was the most fun and rewarding event of my life!!
Sandi Etheredge
Hi Perry,
I’m just getting to know you and just getting started with social media – (am a little intimidated right now, but trying to overcome that). I was moved by your video and commend you for “coming clean”. Everyone makes mistakes but admitting our mistakes and moving forward is what it’s all about.
I look forward to following you and try to learn something from you. Thanks.
Cheryl
nicely done Perry!
Your name into google?
whats with that?
Shit back in the horse! Thats good. I was ruined in the real estate melt down and have to start over in this industry and I am trying to learn an ever changing game. I would like to say that yours and Ryans, “Get Money from Google”, course is the most for the money that I have ever purchased. Thanks for your honesty.
Hey Perry, I like your video presentation, I mean I have been watching your video recently on a few opt-in, but can you try to speak loader or may be use a mic… is kind of soft and I had to turn up my speaker volume to listen.
Anyway, is great you make a daring confession about your past, but who never fails and get knock out… I had been crush by some bad stuff I did when I started out, like copying content and uses some black hat tricks here and there… but all comes back to square one.
I had learn my lesson and I knew where I should head, I’m not sure about you, but I think is best we all learn from mistakes….
Oh and thanks for your 13 email sneaky tricks… it just open my eyes of some little changes here and there really makes a big different…
Thanks for being so honest, Perry. I sort of knew that about you just from what I have seen of your work. And it makes me trust you more.
Big corporations/industries wield a lot of power to protect their turf. Big government sometimes wields a lot of power to protect their friends. The unholy alliance between big pharma and FDA is a prime example of what happens when big government and big corporations/industries join together. Greed and power without constraint creates a dangerous environment for the unwary.
I am just beginning a blog about people taking responsibility for their own health. I am careful not to give health advice or make claims. I also market supplements from a natural nutrition company that has been around for more than 50 years. I am very careful never to go beyond the claims they make for their products.
Helping people accomplish what they want is what makes life meaningful, in my opinion. You said it well.
Sue

Wow Perry …
I read about what happened and instead of throwing mud at you … I learned from what happened to you. I was making plans to get into that market and through my research, I discovered the news stories. I quickly re-focused my marketing efforts.
Personally, I’d rather learn from someone who’s been through the ringer. I’m still struggling to get even a modest income from the internet. I’m struggling to build my list and I go through serious bouts of frustration and self doubt. But I keep trying and I must tell you that I have learned a ton of do’s and don’ts just from your free stuff (because I’m flat broke and can’t buy anything).
So Thank You Perry.
You’ve been a big help to me.
There is not one of us that has not made a mistake and hopefully we all learn from that. It builds inner strength to go forward on just as long those mistakes where not spitefull and hurting to others
hey there you did a very very nice job on the video okay keep it up and i alike it okay thank you and i will spread it around okay thank you thank you for letting me to do it okay thank you so very much okay keep it up there buddy
thank you,
Amy
I love you man. You are awesome! your training is awesome! This video only made me respect you more
Your video doesn’t seem to want to play for me. I read the text and have only this to say: mistakes are only negative if you do not learn from them. I am new to social media/networking (having grown up in rural Humboldt County, California) and I am trying to make an internet website work (selling smart phone apps) mainly because I can’t seem to find “regular” work. Most of the advice I have heard from you comes across as latin to me. I am trying to work from home to pursue my dream of becoming a martial arts teacher. Other jobs don’t allow me to train the way I need to so it seemed like a good idea to try an internet business. The problem I am running into is that no one seems willing to help unless I pay money I no longer have. I understand the maxim, “you need money to make money,” but I only need enough to pay bills and afford food! My attitude seems alien to anyone I have talked to about internet marketing and people can’t seem to wrap thier head around the fact that I don’t need to be a millionaire. I thank you for the information I have recieved from you and appreciate what you have shared. I just wish there was a way for me to make this work without being fleeced at every turn. But it seems to be how the capitalistic system works. I wish yo the best, May You Never Know Thirst!
You’ve reminded me of the old saying “The past does not equal the present”.
Whatever you did in the past, your Twitter follower count, Facebook friends and http://www.Compete.com scores are there there for everyone to see, plain as day. How can anyone refute your social networking tactics? (Although no doubt some will of course!
Good luck with the launch.
Hi Perry,
I should have guessed as much when I first heard about your legal troubles. After seeing a clip on YouTube, I sent a tweet to my Twitter followers telling them about this. I myself felt disappointed as I learned a lot from you. In fact, if it wasn’t for a past webinar I saw of you, I probably still would have no success on Twitter. I now have over 4000 followers and I’m not even trying.
Your troubles with the pharmaceutical industry is the same thing that Kevin Trudeau went through (and probably still is)…and…when they throw tar and feathers at you it’s very hard to get off. Their smear campaigns can be very tough to beat. I apologize for believing them. I should have known better.
Like you, I also try my best at helping other people. Sometimes (also like you), I am better at helping other people than helping myself. But, I’m not sorry for that. I get so much more excited when other people actually benefit from my knowledge (also like you).
Joe

Perry,
Rock on man! Thanks for the info. I have always found your ’stuff’ to be entertaining and informative. We all live in glass houses so we shouldn’t throw stones – own up, learn, and move on.
And the $700 yacht video was awesome.
Take care,
Allan
Hey Perry,
Thanks for sharing your story!
I really respect your honestly and transparency about what happened.
Take Care,
~Brett
Nice to see a gentler side of you, Perry (minus the crass) and the humility in this video. Often times it takes a hard situation to bring about good change in our lives… and as you said, you can either become bitter and angry, or you can learn from them and allow those challenges to work good in your life.
Though your other videos in this launch have been full of great content, for which I thank you, this video is by far my favorite.
I’m learning more about how to do social media well by not only watching what you teach, but by watching what you do.
Kirstyn
Perry,
I’ve been a Twitter follower of yours for some time now.
Thanks for sharing this story. My heart goes out to you. I had a life changing encounter with our federal government some years ago and I’m still trying to put the pieces back together. Wish I could be as honest as you, but if I was, I’d probably never get another job in my field.
I agree with you and try to help everyone with whatever advice I can. Someone (wish I could remember who it was) once said that he made a million dollars by giving away a million dollars worth of advice.
Keep at it. I’ll keep following you and if I get back to my old stomping grounds in Tennessee, I’ll try to look you up.
Cheers!
Kenny
Perry dude, thanks for being the TRUTH.
I work as a consultant to a number of companies in the Alternative Health niche here in Canada and I understand what you’re talking about. As a matter of fact when I looked at a clients ad materials when they brought me on retainer I had them recall EVERYTHING.
See they had been basing their advertising on the ‘IM’ model without taking VERY CAREFUL looks at the way the industry is regulated. To say it sucked the wind out of their sales is a major understatement, but it beats the holy hell out of the cautionary tale that you’re sharing here.
I’m going through an ‘economic recovery’ myself at the moment, as a Dad of 4 going through an expensive divorce. But, like you I’m blessed.
I got what I really wanted…a better relationship with my kids, and joint custody (woo hoo!). I got to find out who my REAL friends were, and I’ve met the woman of my dreams, someone who loves me for ME, not for what I’ve got…which at the moment aint much more than grit and no quit.
Thanks again for sharing, looking forward to seeing you at Launch Tree. Tell me what brand…and I’ll buy you a beer.
Phil Hughes
Great Video Perry!
Thank you.
Wishing you and yours, from Portugal, a wonderful weekend,
Francisco
Hi Perry – it’s great to hear your stories ( the good stuff..of course
) and I think it’s a great thing and brave of you to tell about the past, your downfall and success.
To err is human … and the greatest success is when you are able to get up after the fall.
Relax, be happy and be successful. Yihaaaaa…..
Regards – Lena Khalid
I think it’s great that you’ve come clean. Everybody makes mistakes, It’s what learn from them that matters and it looks like your on the right track!
Great job! I’m still a fan

That’s very big of you sharing your story. I hope the best for you and much success in everything you do.
This was a very heart felt and sincere explanation in my opinion. You always give a lot of great content and seem like a really fun person to know. I have enjoyed looking at your videos and getting your tweets. I am just starting out with social media and I hope I can keep (and spread) your party principle at the front of my mind as I try to brand myself online.
Perry, people make mistakes. We’re all humans.
We love the truth dude!

Way To open up Perry!

Real Humans are so much more interesting then robots….
